Size and Design

Portable hard drives: They prioritize compactness and ease of transport. They are often the size of a deck of cards or a passport.

External hard drives: They are larger and bulkier. These resemble a small book or an external DVD drive.

Portable hard drives: They usually take power directly from your computer’s USB port making them cable-light and convenient.
