How to Update Firefox

Automatic Updates (Recommended)

Firefox typically updates itself in the background. Here’s how to make sure automatic updates are on.

  • Open Firefox.
  • Click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
  • Select “Help”.
  • Click “About Firefox”.
  • Firefox will check for updates. If one is available, it’ll download automatically.
  • Click “Restart to update Firefox” when the download is complete.

Manual Update

If automatic updates aren’t working, or you want to force an update.

  • Open Firefox.
  • Click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
  • Select “Help”.
  • Click “About Firefox”.
  • Firefox will check for updates and download them if available.
  • Click “Restart to update Firefox” when the download is complete.

Specific Instructions for Your Operating System

– Windows:

In the “About Mozilla Firefox” window, Firefox will check for updates automatically.

– MacOS:

Click “Firefox” in the top menu bar and then “Preferences”.

In the “General” panel go to the “Firefox Updates” section and make sure automatic updates are selected.

– Linux:

Updates are usually handled through your Linux distribution’s package manager. Use commands like sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade (on Debian/Ubuntu).
